President Moon expresses condolences for late Han Seungheon: "A symbol of human rights lawyers"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in expressed his condolences on the 21st, calling the late lawyer Han Seung-heon "an eternal lawyer and a symbol of human rights lawyers."
Through a social network service (SNS) message, President Moon stated, "I offer my deep respect and condolences to the late lawyer Han Seung-heon."
President Moon also mentioned his connection with lawyer Han during their 'prison days.' He said, "When I was a senior in college, I was arrested for protesting against the Yushin regime and was assigned a cell at Seodaemun Detention Center. On the first day, there was someone who sent me a new set of underwear through a prison officer from the adjacent cell, and that person was lawyer Han."
President Moon added, "He was detained for violating the Anti-Communist Law with a piece called ‘Eotteon Josa (Condolence Address),’ and that’s how we became cellmates. It was a time when I hadn’t been able to meet my family for a long time and was very much in need of a change of underwear. He must have guessed the situation of an unknown college student and showed kindness, for which I was very grateful."
