Tertiary Hospitals and Foreign Schools Underway... Significant Economic Impact Expected if Successful
Youth Swimming Pools, Fine Dust Blocking Forests Followed by Provincial Office 2 Building and Library Opening Next Year
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Heo Seok, a prospective candidate for re-election as mayor of Suncheon, announced the "Suncheon Sindae District Development Pledge" on the 21st after successfully passing the Democratic Party cut-off.
He pledged the construction of Namdo Arts Center, the largest performance facility in the eastern region of Jeollanam-do, and the creation of the Sindaecheon Riverside Park. He also revealed that the attraction of an international school, currently under feasibility study, is being pursued in cooperation with an American university.
In addition, the construction of a large general hospital facility, a higher-level hospital, is under discussion with the Gwangyang Economic Zone Authority regarding floor area ratio and other matters, and is expected to materialize soon.
There are also many ongoing projects. Some projects promoted as pledges during the 7th local government term are scheduled to be completed by this year. Last month, a national public daycare center and a youth swimming pool opened, and the creation of a fine dust blocking forest and the operation of the Suncheon-style elementary care childcare station are expected to be completed or launched within this year.
The Sindae Library, currently under construction and equipped with facilities such as a portrait library, reading room, book cafe, small theater, and performance hall, as well as the Jeollanam-do 2nd Government Office, where about 300 employees from three countries will work, are scheduled to open next year.
Additionally, the Economic Zone Authority is promoting projects including the construction of a new intersection and access road on National Route 17, securing land for a public parking lot, promoting the Booyoung Country Club citizen sports facility, re-pursuing Namga IC, constructing the Oknyobong Multipurpose Gymnasium, and renewing the Ecological Corridor Road.
Candidate Heo Seok stated, "The economic zone authority is responsible for the permits and approvals in the Sindae District, so there are some differences in the promotion process, but we will coordinate well to ensure that the living conditions for citizens become more convenient." He added, "Since many seeds have already been sown, such as the Jeollanam-do 2nd Government Office, the construction of the higher-level hospital, and the attraction of the international school, once these bear fruit, it will greatly help not only population growth but also the local economy."
Meanwhile, candidate Heo Seok is from Haeryong-myeon, Suncheon, graduated from Suncheon High School and Seoul National University with a degree in economics, and has served as director of the Labor Issues Research Institute that opens the dawn, and co-chairman of the Jeollanam-do joint election campaign committee for presidential candidate Moon Jae-in.
