Five-Way Race for Vacant Sacheon Mayor Position Including Kang Hodong, Park Dongsik, Park Jeongyeol
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] As the candidates from the People Power Party running for mayor and county head positions in Gyeongnam for the June 1 local elections are taking shape, four candidates will compete in the primary election in Gimhae City, the hometown of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun and a stronghold of the Democratic Party.
The People Power Party Gyeongnam Provincial Party Nomination Management Committee announced on the 21st that it had decided on the candidates for the Gimhae mayoral primary election for the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections.
The provincial party nomination committee decided to hold the Gimhae mayoral primary election with four candidates after document and interview evaluations.
The candidates selected for the primary are Kwon Tong-il, advisory member of the 20th Presidential Transition Committee; Park Young-jin, former Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency chief; Hong Tae-yong, senior vice chairman of the provincial party; and Hwang Jeon-won, former standing member of the Special Investigation Commission on Social Disasters.
For the Tongyeong mayoral election, six candidates will compete in the primary: Kang Geun-sik, former provincial council member; Kang Seok-woo, former secretary to the National Assembly deputy speaker; Kim Jong-bu, former deputy mayor of Changwon City; Kim Tae-jong, head of the Tongyeong branch of the Gyeongnam Bar Association; Jeong Dong-young, former provincial council member; and Cheon Young-gi, former provincial council member.
For the Goseong county head election, five candidates were selected for the primary: Bae Sang-gil, county council member; Lee Sang-geun, former county council member; Ha Hak-yeol, former county head; Heo Dong-won, director of the Goseong Future Research Institute; and Hwang Bo-gil, former provincial council member.
The provincial party nomination committee had earlier, on the 19th, decided on the candidates for the primaries for Yangsan mayor, Sacheon mayor, and Namhae county head elections.
For the Yangsan mayoral election, two candidates will compete in the primary: Na Dong-yeon, former mayor, and Han Ok-moon, former city council chairman.
The Sacheon mayoral election, which became an open seat after Mayor Song Do-geun, who was seeking a third term, was ousted due to a violation of the Anti-Graft Law, has five candidates for the primary.
The candidates are Kang Ho-dong, former deputy mayor of Yangsan City; Park Dong-sik, former provincial council chairman; Park Jeong-yeol, former provincial council member; Lee Won-seop, former research professor at Gyeongsang National University; and Choi Sang-hwa, former Chunchoogwan director.

For the Namhae county head election, four candidates were selected for the primary: Ko Won-oh, former head of the Namhae branch of NongHyup; Moon Jun-hong, director of the Namhae Future Policy Research Institute; Park Young-il, former county head; and Lee Cheol-ho, director of Namhae Dental Clinic.
