The city held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Jinhae Haengam public bus garage on the 20th.
About 200 people attended, including Heo Seong-mu, Mayor of Changwon Special City, provincial and city council members, representatives and union branch chiefs of nine city bus transportation companies, and local residents of Jinhae-gu.
A city official explained that the Jinhae food waste recycling facility was originally located on the outskirts of the city when it was established in the 1980s, but due to urban expansion, it became close to residential areas and was perceived as a nuisance facility within the community.
After the relocation of the facility was confirmed in 2017, the city began a project in 2019 to convert the site into a public bus garage. Over three years, related administrative procedures such as changes to the greenbelt management plan, approval of the urban planning facility project implementation plan, and public design review were completed.
There was no public bus garage in the eastern Jinhae area, so temporary turnaround yards had to be used. The existing Jangcheon-dong turnaround yard was located within a residential complex in the city center, causing complaints related to traffic safety, noise, and dust.
The newly constructed Jinhae Haengam public bus garage was selected as a recipient of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s public bus garage support project in April last year.
Of the total project cost of 2.25 billion KRW, 570 million KRW from the national government and 960 million KRW from the provincial government will be supported. The garage will be built on a 4,212㎡ site with parking for 20 large buses and 10 passenger cars, totaling 30 parking spaces, and a total area of 198㎡.
Offices, a cafeteria, and rest facilities will be included. Construction is scheduled to be completed by July this year, with five city bus routes and 34 buses planned to operate.
The Jangcheon-dong city bus turnaround yard will be relocated here, and a Jinhae Culture Center and library will be built on the former turnaround yard site.
A city official said, “The residential environment and public transportation services in the eastern Jinhae area will greatly improve.”
