Hyundai Department Store Group Creates Carbon Neutral Forest... "Accelerating ESG Management"

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Hyundai Department Store Group announced on the 20th that it will join hands with the Korea Forest Service to create a "Carbon Neutral Forest." The Carbon Neutral Forest is a forest established to reabsorb carbon dioxide emitted through daily life and industrial activities, and is being promoted jointly by the Korea Forest Service, private companies, and civic groups.
On the same day, Hyundai Department Store Group held a commemorative ceremony for the creation of the Carbon Neutral Forest in Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province, together with the Korea Forest Service and the nonprofit organization Life Forest. The forest to be created this time covers an area of 16.5 hectares (about 50,000 pyeong), and approximately 30,000 trees are scheduled to be planted by 2027.
Hyundai Department Store Group plans to regularize forest care events involving customers and employees, and introduce customer participation eco-friendly content such as experiential education programs that raise awareness of the value of forests and the importance of carbon neutrality activities.

Jang Ho-jin, Head of Planning and Coordination at Hyundai Department Store, said, “Following the launch of the eco-friendly integrated brand Re:Green, we plan to fulfill the company’s social responsibility for the environment through the creation of the Carbon Neutral Forest.” He added, “We will continue to grow into a sustainable company that offers hope to future generations through sincere carbon-neutral management.”
