The 92nd Chunhyang Festival to be Held at Gwanghallu Garden Area on the 4th of Next Month
[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] The 92nd Chunhyang Festival, Korea's premier traditional cultural festival, will be held from the 4th to the 8th of next month at the Gwanghallu Garden area in Namwon.
According to Namwon City on the 20th, this year's festival, held under the theme "Again, Love," will feature a variety of events including the Chunhyang Ritual at Gwanghallu Garden, the Chunhyang Selection Contest, Samdo Nongak Hanmadang (traditional farmers' music festival), Hanbok fashion show, the musical Chunhyang, and a midnight concert.
Since social distancing measures were fully lifted on the 18th and the restrictions on the number of attendees, which had been a major obstacle to holding festivals, were removed, the city plans to attract travelers to the festival site by preparing diverse programs for the first in-person Chunhyang Festival in three years.
The city will open Gwanghallu Garden free of charge to tourists visiting for the Chunhyang Festival on Children's Day and the opening ceremony day, May 5th, and will also advance the free opening time by one hour during the festival period, from 6 p.m. to 5 p.m.
During the festival period, except for the free opening days, if adults pay the 3,000 KRW admission fee to Gwanghallu Garden, 1,000 KRW will be refunded in the form of Namwon Love Gift Certificates, which can be used like cash at affiliated restaurants, stores, and other merchants, thereby promoting a virtuous cycle in the local economy.
Seo Ji-ho, Director of the Tourism Facilities Office, said, "The festival enhances the image of the region and revitalizes the local economy, serving as a reliable benefactor for the area," and added, "We will actively support the successful hosting of the 92nd Chunhyang Festival, including the opening of Gwanghallu Garden."
