Candidate Park Jin: "Korea and Japan Must Work Together to Restore the Dignity of Comfort Women Victims"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Park Jin, the nominee for Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated on the 20th regarding the issue of Japanese military comfort women, "It is necessary for Korea and Japan to work together to restore the honor and dignity of the victims."
On his way to the confirmation hearing preparation office in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Park responded to a question about the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's stance on the 'comfort women agreement' by saying, "The comfort women agreement is an official agreement between Korea and Japan, and it is recognized even by the current Moon Jae-in administration."
When asked if the Korea-Japan policy consultation team visiting Japan on the 24th might meet with Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, he said, "We are discussing with all possibilities open."
Regarding the possibility of sending a policy consultation team to China, he mentioned China's COVID-19 lockdown situation and explained, "I understand that it will be reviewed based on the situation and conditions within China."
He also said that in the scheduled meeting with Sung Kim, the U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, in the morning, "We will discuss ways for Korea and the U.S. to closely cooperate regarding North Korea's missile provocations and the possibility of nuclear tests."

Meanwhile, in response to reports that his son gave up dual citizenship shortly after being admitted to the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) under the overseas Korean quota, he explained, "My son was born in the U.S. and held dual citizenship of the U.S. and Korea, but upon turning 18, he had to choose a nationality and chose Korean nationality."
