Jeonju City Holds Design Competition Jury Meeting to Select Winning Entry... Construction to Begin Next Year
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 20th that it held a judging committee meeting for the design competition of the Jeonju Disabled Sports Welfare Center and selected the work titled ‘Hanul (One Fence)’ submitted by Gil Comprehensive Architectural Office ENG Co., Ltd. as the winning entry.
The Jeonju Disabled Sports Welfare Center is being built as a welfare hub institution aimed at enabling people with disabilities to maintain health through physical activities without exclusion, improve quality of life through lifelong learning, and provide functions such as a library, independent transition, and family support.
The winning design ‘Hanul’ is characterized by a barrier-free plan convenient for everyone, a spatial plan harmonizing with the surrounding environment, a space plan that creates safe and diverse activities for the disabled and a free-flowing community, and an eco-friendly green building designed for energy saving and carbon reduction.
Jeonju City plans to complete the detailed design service based on the winning design by August and start construction aiming for completion in June 2024.
Selected in 2021 as part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Living SOC public project, the Jeonju Disabled Sports Welfare Center will be built on a 7,000㎡ site within the Jeonju World Cup Stadium grounds, with a total investment of 14.9 billion KRW including 5.1 billion KRW in national funds, and will have a total floor area of 4,000㎡.
The first floor will be equipped with a multipurpose gymnasium, aquatic exercise room, and caf? lounge; the second floor will have a fitness center, rehabilitation gym, rehabilitation counseling room, and offices; and the third floor will include a lifelong education center, small library, and multipurpose room.
Once completed, the Jeonju Disabled Sports Welfare Center is expected to play a central role in sports activities and continuous lifelong learning for socially vulnerable people with disabilities.
