[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Six design projects managed by the Seoul Metropolitan Government have won the main prize at Germany’s ‘iF Design Award,’ one of the world’s top three design awards. The ‘iF Design Award’ is organized by the German marketing consulting company International Forum Design and is considered one of the world’s top three design awards alongside Germany’s ‘Red Dot Design Award’ and the United States’ ‘IDEA Award.’
According to Seoul City on the 20th, a total of 10,776 works from 57 countries worldwide were submitted to this year’s iF Design Award. By winning the main prize in six design projects, Seoul has enhanced its international status as an ‘Emotionally Attractive City.’
Four projects in three fields?service, interior, and architecture?under the Seoul City Design Policy Division won the main prize. In the service design category, the projects ▲Youth Problem-Solving Design (2018) and ▲Infection Prevention Design (2021) received the main prize. The Youth Problem-Solving Design project aimed to address issues arising from excessive digital dependence among youth, such as smartphone addiction and gaming addiction, through design solutions.
The Infection Prevention Design project is a case where Seoul City, amid the global rise in interest in infectious diseases due to COVID-19, developed and applied the world’s first standardized design for personal quarantine and behavioral guidance in daily life. Through unified design for infectious diseases, it enhanced citizens’ ability to cope with everyday crises.
Additionally, two projects from the Seoul Museum of Craft Art won the main prize in the communication design category. The two awards for the Seoul Museum of Craft Art recognized the entire ‘Branding Design System’ applied to a single archive, marking the first time since the iF Design Award began in 1954 that a museum’s entire branding system has received an award.
