South Korea and Malaysia National Athletics Teams Training at the Center
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] The Mokpo International Football Center in Jeollanam-do is gaining attention as a training camp location for domestic and international athletes.
According to the center on the 19th, Mokpo International Football Center, equipped with optimal facilities as a training site, hosted training sessions for the Korea Football Association national team and referee and official workshops in January and February, attracting over 5,700 visitors and generating more than 200 million KRW in revenue.
This month, about 10 national track and field (throwing) athletes from Korea and Malaysia visited. The Korean national team is conducting training at Mokpo International Football Center from March 7 to May 30, and the Malaysian team from April 1 to May 12.
In addition, various sports teams including football, canoeing, swimming, and hockey are currently staying and training at Mokpo International Football Center.
With the lifting of COVID-19 social distancing measures, the increase in sports events, and the resumption of international exchanges, visits to Mokpo International Football Center, an ideal customized training site, have revived. Accordingly, the city plans to provide various incentives such as vehicle rental fees, fuel costs, and supplies to training teams.
Even before COVID-19, Mokpo International Football Center was popular as a training site and was selected as the best institution in Jeollanam-do’s winter training camp evaluation in 2017 and 2018.
A city official said, “We will continuously renovate and maintain the facilities of Mokpo International Football Center and actively promote its excellence to attract domestic and international athletes for training camps.”
Meanwhile, on the 14th, the Mokpo City Sports Council held a welcoming event inviting the national track and field teams of Korea and Malaysia and Baek Okja, vice president of the Korea Athletics Federation (gold medalist in shot put at the 1974 Tehran Asian Games).
