Jeonnam Province Increases Luxury Accommodations to Boost Stay Tourism
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Jeonnam Province announced on the 19th that it plans to increase the number of luxury accommodations, which stood at 10,631 rooms as of December last year, by 66% to 17,617 rooms by 2025, fostering Jeonnam as a tourism hub where visitors can enjoy the province's scenery and cuisine while staying overnight.
Jeonnam Province is developing six sites totaling 19,443,000㎡, including the Yeosu Challenger Park tourism complex, and has prepared new development plans for five sites such as the Gubongsan tourism complex in Gwangyang, investing 3.59 trillion KRW to create 6,986 rooms.
The Yeosu Challenger Park tourism complex is investing 230.8 billion KRW on a 510,000㎡ site in Hwayang-myeon. In the first phase, road construction, electrical and sewage infrastructure, and three sky luge routes totaling 2,724m will be completed this year. The second phase includes building accommodation facilities such as the Ocean Point Hotel with 458 rooms, a conference hotel with 180 rooms, and 16 pool villas by 2025.
The Jindo Daemyung Resort tourism complex invested 350.8 billion KRW on a 559,000㎡ site in Uisin-myeon and opened the 588-room Sol Beach Condo in the first phase in 2019. It attracts about 656,000 visitors annually, generating an economic effect exceeding 90 billion KRW.
By 2025, with the completion of 166 Ocean Village rooms, 419 rooms including beach condos, and a traditional culture experience center, it is estimated that over one million people will enjoy leisure and tourism annually, solidifying Jindo as a comprehensive tourism hub.
Currently, in Jeonnam, five sites including Sinan Jaeun and Goheung Art Land are attracting 3.0091 trillion KRW in private capital investment to develop not only luxury accommodations such as hotels, resorts, and pool villas but also various cultural facilities for tourism and leisure.
In particular, a 533-room resort hotel in the Sinan Jaeun Marine Tourism Complex is scheduled to begin operations in June, and a 120-room, five-story resort hotel was started in February at the Osiano tourism complex. The Korea Tourism Organization plans to complete and operate it by 2023.

A Jeonnam Province official said, “Since the Sol Beach at Jindo Daemyung Resort tourism complex began operations, the number of visitors to Jindo has increased by more than 600,000 annually,” adding, “We will continue to attract investments in high-end hotels, pool villas, and other facilities harmonized with cultural and tourism resources to solve the shortage of luxury accommodations in Jeonnam and revitalize the local tourism industry, fostering Jeonnam as a destination for extended stays.”
