Namwon-si to Hold Campaign and Lights-Out Event on April 22 in Commemoration of Earth Day

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk, announced on the 19th that it will promote campaigns and light-off events to raise awareness and climate action through citizens' understanding and empathy for the transition to a carbon-neutral society in celebration of Earth Day on the 22nd.

The city aims to spread the culture of practicing carbon-neutral living and encourage active citizen participation through the 14th Climate Change Week (4.22~4.28).

This campaign will be conducted in collaboration with the Namwon City Women's Association and the Climate Change Countermeasures Committee at Sarang Square, distributing placards and leaflets on carbon-neutral living practices to inform citizens about the seriousness of the climate crisis and the necessity of low-carbon living.

The city will hold a light-off event for 10 minutes starting at 8 p.m. on the 22nd.

Participants include the Namwon City Hall, Waterworks Office, Environmental Office, and Haetteure Bestium, selected as a green apartment. In addition, the city will promote the event on city billboards and SNS to encourage voluntary participation in the light-off event by households.

The city will select recipients for the ‘Namwon City Courage Up - Green Point System’ incentives, which emphasize the importance of environmental conservation and the remembrance of environmental memorial days.

To encourage more citizen participation on Earth Day, the existing incentives have been increased (tumbler 1000 points, container 2000 points), and various campaigns will continue to be promoted to ensure ongoing practice rather than one-time actions.

A city official said, “It is urgent to normalize the practice of carbon-neutral living for the realization of a carbon-neutral society by citizens, and I hope everyone will lead with small actions for the Earth starting now.”
