Expert Lectures on History and Culture by Country... Discussing Diplomatic Issues with Ministry of Foreign Affairs Officials
Online Classes Starting from the 19th
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] As overseas travel and global cultural exchanges resume after more than two years since the spread of COVID-19, Seoul Citizen University announced on the 18th that starting from the 19th of this month, it will provide opportunities to deeply engage with the history, culture, and arts of various countries around the world through the 'Embassy-Linked Citizen University' program.
Operated by the Seoul Lifelong Education Promotion Institute, Seoul Citizen University will begin the 'Embassy-Linked Citizen University' program with Italy as the first country. Subsequently, the program will be conducted in cooperation with the embassies of four countries in the following order: Saudi Arabia (June) → Mexico (August) → China (October).
The 'Embassy-Linked Citizen University' consists of a total of five classes per country, focusing on expert lectures in fields such as history, culture, and arts. Additionally, there will be sessions for direct communication with Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials to discuss diplomatic issues. In the final fifth session, participants may have the opportunity to visit the respective embassy or cultural center.
The first class on the 19th, focusing on 'Italy,' will be conducted entirely online via Zoom over five weeks. Participants will explore the flow of Italian history, known as the cradle of Western culture, with Professor Choi Byung-jin from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Department of Italian). They will also understand lifestyles through the region's cultural heritage and have an in-depth session on Italy's unparalleled opera and art songs.
In particular, participants will hear about Italy's lesser-known achievements in science and technology. This includes Italy's excellent scientific technology, having launched the world's third artificial satellite into space, as well as the hidden truths of diplomatic issues conveyed by a current official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Participants will also have the opportunity to communicate with the Italian Ambassador to Korea.
The 'Embassy-Linked Citizen University Program' is free for all Seoul citizens and accepts applications on a first-come, first-served basis through the Seoul Lifelong Learning Portal (sll.seoul.go.kr).
