On the 18th, Kwon Soon-pyo, head of the Gangnam-gu branch of the Integrated Union, announced that the Gangnam-gu Election Commission notified them that for the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections, they would handle poster management and removal tasks excluding the task of posting election posters.
This outcome came from a meeting held at 2 p.m. on the 14th between the executives of the Gangnam-gu branch of the National Integrated Public Officials Labor Union (abbreviated as Tonggongno) and the Gangnam-gu Election Commission.
Based on various issues that occurred during the presidential election held on March 9, the Integrated Union strongly urged improvements to ensure smooth election operations for the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections scheduled for June 1.
The meeting was held at the request of the Gangnam-gu branch of the Integrated Union, attended by Jeong Gwang-sik, Secretary General of the Gangnam-gu Election Commission, Lee Soon-joo, Election Officer, and the head of Election Division 1.
The demands presented at the meeting included: ▲ reducing the proportion of local government officials engaged in voting and counting tasks ▲ realistic adjustment of allowances for voting staff ▲ payment of travel expenses for voting staff ▲ practical allowance payment to secretaries and clerks of the Dong (neighborhood) Election Committees during the election period ▲ direct execution by the Gangnam-gu Election Commission of election publicity material mailing and installation, maintenance, and removal of election posters. The Integrated Union urged active consideration and prompt implementation of these five items.
In response, the Gangnam-gu Election Commission expressed full sympathy for the union's demands but stated that due to prior budget allocation, it would be difficult to immediately implement the realistic adjustment of allowances, payment of travel expenses, and practical allowance payment to secretaries and clerks of the Dong Election Committees during this nationwide simultaneous local election.
Instead, the Gangnam-gu Election Commission decided to take over the management and removal of election posters, which are among the undesirable tasks at the Dong Community Centers, including the mailing of election publicity materials and installation, management, and removal of election posters.
The Integrated Union plans to perform the posting of election posters in this local election but intends to contribute to job creation by outsourcing the entire set of undesirable tasks such as mailing publicity materials through continuous consultation with the Gangnam-gu Election Commission.

Branch head Kwon Soon-pyo stated, "We will work with the Election Commission to improve the unreasonable election tasks that have always mobilized only local government officials during elections and boldly outsource the excessively burdened election tasks. We will also do our best until the realistic adjustment of allowances is realized."
