Gwangju Religious Community Declares Support for Kang Ki-jung... "Possesses Political Leadership for Ruling and Opposition Cooperation"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The local religious community declared their support for Kang Ki-jung, the preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, on the 18th.
Leaders from the camps of Jeong Se-gyun and Lee Jae-myung, representatives of the five major religions, the May 18 Democratic Uprising, and key figures from civil society, under the name of 7,000 people, held a press conference at the Gwangju City Council Citizen Communication Office and emphasized, "Preliminary candidate Kang is the only candidate who can achieve the development of Gwangju, the center of South Korea, in the history of local autonomy."
Representatives attending the press conference included Jo Bong-hoon, Gwangju representative of Cheondogyo, Park Young-soon, former president of the May 18 People's Uprising Comrades Association, and Jo Sung-sik, secretary-general of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Religious Peace Alliance.
They emphasized, "Only preliminary candidate Kang Ki-jung possesses first, leadership to eradicate various corruptions, reform disorder, promote fair innovation, and lead innovative growth; second, democratic leadership that protects the identity of past democratic governments; and third, political leadership capable of dramatically fulfilling the role of bipartisan cooperation based on the Democratic Party's 172 seats in the National Assembly."

They continued, "For the first time in the history of local autonomy, a candidate who possesses all of fair innovation, innovative growth leadership, democratic leadership, and bipartisan political leadership must become the mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City," and appealed, "We earnestly ask all citizens of Gwangju to give overwhelming support to preliminary candidate Kang Ki-jung, the only candidate who embodies both the leadership of the representative worker of Bitgoeul and the leadership of the representative worker of the democratic forces."
