Kang Byung-hoon, Ko Dae-woong, Park Byung-hyun Awarded 'Proud Jeju Police'

[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Police Agency announced on the 18th that it held the 16th ‘Proud Jeju Police’ awards ceremony.

The Proud Jeju Police event selects three individuals each quarter who have made significant contributions such as important criminal arrests, touching public safety cases, and unsung internal workers, to promote social trust and a culture of respect for the police.

At the event, Police Lieutenant Kang Byeonghun of the Traffic Investigation Division of Jeju Police Agency, Police Lieutenant Go Daewoong of Ara Police Box at Dongbu Police Station, and Police Officer Park Byeonghyeon of the Criminal Investigation Team 1 at Seobu Police Station were honored as Proud Jeju Police.

Lieutenant Kang Byeonghun is a traffic investigation specialist who has worked in the traffic investigation field for 19 years. In April 2021, he supported the scene of a major traffic accident at Jeju University Entrance Intersection and analyzed digital driving records. In August 2021, he proved speeding through analysis of the event data recorder in a fatal car accident in Dodoo.

His major achievements include thoroughly identifying causes by analyzing 527 event data recorders (EDR) over the past two years, contributing to enhancing public trust in the traffic investigation field.

Lieutenant Go Daewoong, a community police officer responsible for frontline public safety, located a person attempting suicide by burning charcoal briquettes inside a vehicle in January 2021 by tracking the person’s mobile phone location, found the person early, and saved their life through emergency measures.

In March 2022, he quickly extinguished an uncontrollable fire caused by illegal burning of household waste on Hallasan Mountain using a fire extinguisher in his patrol car, preventing a large-scale forest fire, thereby contributing to securing the safety of residents through prompt and proactive on-site response.

Police Officer Park Byeonghyeon is a passionate rookie detective who, in February 2021, arrested a foreign suspect who snatched a woman’s bag late at night, and in August 2021, apprehended a suspect who inflicted special injury with a weapon on a victim from a competing company during parole.

Additionally, in February 2022, he arrested a suspect who repeatedly broke into vacant houses and stole valuables worth about 300 million won, and in March 2022, apprehended a suspect who killed his mother suffering from dementia, contributing to the eradication of violent crimes threatening ordinary citizens.

Jeju Police Chief Go Gi-cheol said, “Although the COVID-19 pandemic has made the lives of ordinary people more difficult and increased the burden on public safety, if we work with the mindset of ‘being a strong shield for ordinary people and socially vulnerable groups’ with passion and sincerity, all Jeju police officers deserve to be proud police trusted by the public.”
