Lee Chang-yong "BOK Needs Treatment Improvement... To Become the Nation's Top Think Tank"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] Lee Chang-yong, the nominee for Governor of the Bank of Korea, who is scheduled for a confirmation hearing on the 19th, expressed the need for improved treatment in response to concerns about the recent increase in employee resignations.
In a written response submitted on the 18th to Yang Kyung-sook, a member of the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, Lee stated, "Recently, there have been growing demands, especially from younger employees, to improve the Bank of Korea's relatively low salary levels compared to other institutions and private companies."
Lee emphasized, "Appropriate compensation is necessary to encourage employees to diligently perform their duties," adding, "I plan to develop the Bank of Korea into a leading domestic think tank that truly understands our economy."
In responses submitted to Kim Young-jin and Jeong Il-young of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Seo Il-jun of the People Power Party, he diagnosed the reasons for resignations by noting, "There is an internal perception that the organization operates rigidly and that the level of treatment is low."
