Korea Tourism Organization Selects 'Gangjinman Ecological Park' Among 125 Safe Tourist Destinations
Recommendation of Tourist Destinations for Foreign Visitors During COVID Recovery Period
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] The Korea Tourism Organization has selected Gangjinman Ecological Park as one of the 125 safe tourist destinations for foreign visitors (in-bound).
The in-bound safe tourist destinations are places where foreign tourists can visit with confidence during the phased recovery period, and last year, the Korea Tourism Organization selected 125 locations nationwide based on recommendations from local governments.
Gangjinman Ecological Park is located where the Tamjin River meets Gangjin Bay. It is an open estuary without embankments, forming a wide natural brackish water zone. The ecological environment, including farmland, mountains, and small streams adjacent to the estuarine wetlands, is well preserved, supporting a rich variety of ecological resources.
It is a treasure trove of 'ecological diversity' with 1,131 species of various organisms living there. It is home to endangered species such as the otter, as well as winter migratory birds like the swan, greater white-fronted goose, and yellow-billed spoonbill, which are designated as Natural Monument No. 201-2, along with mudskippers and rice field crabs.
Especially in autumn, when the reeds turn golden, the 'Gangjinman Dancing Reed Festival' is held, attracting many tourists. In winter, the beautiful wing flapping of migratory birds over the reed fields creates a different kind of beauty from that of autumn.
Kim Bada, CEO of the Gangjin Cultural Tourism Foundation, said, “In a situation where post-COVID and the expansion of travel safety zone agreements are expected, we will program Gangjinman Ecological Park along with Gawudo, Saejae, and Dasan Chodang, the historical and cultural tourism resources of Gangjin, to play a leading role in the era of international tourism on the southern coast.”
