Gochang-gun Holds Midterm Report Meeting on 'Salt Farm Site Marine Ecological Healing Belt Development'

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun recently held the first interim report meeting for the ‘Salt Farm Site Marine Ecological Healing Belt Creation Project’ chaired by the Gochang County Governor.

According to the county on the 18th, this interim report meeting presented a blueprint to develop the marine healing industry by focusing on the restoration of the ecosystem in the abandoned salt farm area and utilizing the surrounding World Natural Heritage Gochang Mudflat, Myeongsasimni sandy beach, and Noeul Bridge.

In particular, the ‘Noeul Ecological Mudflat Platform Creation Project (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, 19.6 billion KRW)’, which serves as a priming project, has gained momentum this year after securing national budget.

The county is planning large-scale projects such as the ‘National World Natural Heritage Center (31.5 billion KRW)’ and the ‘Mudflat Wetland Restoration Project (45 billion KRW)’ centered on the salt farm site.

Attention is also focused on the ‘Designation of Marine Healing District and Construction of Healing Center (45 billion KRW).’

Marine healing refers to activities that promote public health by improving constitution, enhancing immunity, and anti-aging through the use of marine healing resources such as mudflats, salt, seaweed, and marine landscapes.

Although still unfamiliar in Korea, the marine healing industry using seawater hot springs, seaweed, mud, and others is already active in Germany, France, and Japan.

A county official said, “We will make Gochang salt farms and mudflats a space where nature and humans heal each other and coexist, and discover various healing programs using abundant marine resources to enhance the brand value unique to the Gochang sea.”
