[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongbuk Province has achieved remarkable progress in national public contest projects in the agricultural and livestock food distribution sector compared to the end of March last year.
The major projects selected so far in national public contests include ▲Yecheon Pungyang District Rural Water Use System Reorganization Project (total project cost 45.8 billion KRW, national funding 45.8 billion KRW) ▲Region-Specialized Rental Smart Farm (total project cost 20 billion KRW, national funding 14 billion KRW) ▲Rural Convergence Complex District Creation Project (total project cost 3 billion KRW, national funding 1.5 billion KRW) ▲Agricultural Worker Dormitory Construction Support Project (total project cost 2.4 billion KRW, national funding 1.2 billion KRW), among others.
The Yecheon Pungyang District Rural Water Use System Reorganization Project is a project to renovate hydraulic facilities such as reservoirs, pumping stations, and water channels in the Pungyang-myeon area to resolve the shortage of stable agricultural water in preparation for drought, and it is fully funded by the national government.
The Region-Specialized Rental Smart Farm project involves establishing smart farms in the Geumho-eup area of Yeongcheon for young farmers who have difficulty securing initial facility investment costs, with local governments providing the farms at reasonable rental fees to offer business opportunities to young farmers.
Out of the total project cost of 20 billion KRW, 14 billion KRW in national funding will be received to create 4 hectares of rental smart farms equipped with geothermal heating and cooling facilities, aiming to expand the regional agricultural smartization rate to 50% by 2030.
Additionally, the Rural Convergence Complex District Creation Project plans to establish a convergence center in four myeon (Shinnyeong, Hwasan, Cheongtong, Imgo) of Yeongcheon, a representative garlic production area for the warm-season garlic variety, to strengthen networking and capabilities among related parties and develop garlic as a regional brand.
The Agricultural Worker Dormitory Construction project is aimed at securing rural labor by improving housing for foreign workers, creating a complex community with 25 rooms, a dining hall, an auditorium, and a lounge through the construction of dormitories for foreign workers.
It is expected to greatly support the harvest of agricultural products such as Yeongyang chili peppers, apples, and watermelons by ensuring stable employment of foreign workers during the spring and autumn labor shortage periods.
Gyeongbuk Province plans to participate in a total of 43 projects worth 670 billion KRW this year, including rural agreements and rural hub revitalization projects, marking the first year of a digital agricultural policy transformation.
