View original image[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Independent candidate Kang Yong-seok for Gyeonggi Province governor has announced a pledge to "extend public transportation hours and secure alternative transportation measures."
On the 17th, before announcing his transportation pledge in front of Gangnam Station, candidate Kang explained the background of his pledge, saying, "About 10% of the 14 million residents of Gyeonggi Province commute or attend school in Seoul, and especially Gangnam Station, where Subway Line 2 and the Shinbundang Line pass, is the busiest station with an average of about 7,000 to 8,000 daily users, many of whom are Gyeonggi residents."
Kang cited the "last public transportation departure time" as the reason why Gyeonggi residents find it difficult to stay late in Seoul.
He added, "If the last departure time of public transportation between Seoul and Gyeonggi Province is extended by about one hour, the regret and inconvenience of residents having to leave early from gatherings or dinners will be reduced."
He then proposed "utilizing tourist buses" as a measure to implement the "extension of last departure times."
Kang said, "Tourist buses registered in Gyeonggi Province account for about 60% of the nation's tourist buses, but most have more days off and are used for commuting or academy buses," adding, "We will maximize the use of tourist buses at night and assign them to various routes."
He also explained, "By doing so, idle tourist buses can increase their income, and residents can use late-night transportation that is cheaper, more convenient, and not restricted by time."
Regarding the budget, he pledged, "Additional budget is not much needed, and I will avoid policies that are ineffective despite large expenditures," and "I will try to utilize existing resources as much as possible and explore ways to develop various alternative transportation methods."
Kang's main transportation pledges include ▲ extending public transportation hours and expanding routes ▲ extending Line 8 to Pangyo ▲ operating late-night buses using tourist buses ▲ supporting vehicles for commuting.
