Seoul Facilities Corporation to Operate Free Disabled Call Taxis on April 20, 'Day of Persons with Disabilities'
Two Seoul Disabled Buses Also Available for Free Use for One Week
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 18th that it will provide free rides on disabled call taxis and disabled buses in celebration of Disabled Persons Day on the 20th.
The disabled call taxis will operate free of charge for 24 hours on the 20th. Customers who wish to use the service can apply via mobile app, internet, or phone. The disabled call taxis are available for those with walking disabilities and severe disabilities (previously grades 1 to 3).
Additionally, the corporation will operate two 'Seoul Disabled Buses' free of charge from the 20th to the 26th for groups including persons with severe disabilities who need to travel long distances. During this period, bus usage can be reserved through the Seoul Metropolitan Government public service reservation site, and detailed inquiries can be made by phone.
The currently operating 'Seoul Disabled Buses' consist of two large buses with seating for 8 wheelchair users and 21 general seats, and 5 wheelchair users and 18 general seats, respectively. They have been in operation since June 2020 to facilitate the mobility of groups including persons with disabilities. The service is available for groups of four or more, including at least one wheelchair user, and the maximum number of passengers follows the government's private gathering allowance standards.
Meanwhile, on the 18th, two days before Disabled Persons Day, the corporation will invite about 10 disabled persons from Seongmin Welfare Center in Dobong-gu for a tour service. The schedule includes traveling by Seoul Disabled Bus to the Korean Folk Village, strolling and sightseeing around various spots, with plans to expand and implement the service in the second half of the year depending on the COVID-19 situation.
