Yoon: "Quarterly Regular Communication... Will Resolve Issues"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Yoon Bong-geun, a preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangsan District, Gwangju Metropolitan City, promised to regularize communication with private daycare centers in the district to fundamentally resolve their issues. He also emphasized his commitment to creating a prestigious educational city, Gwangsan District, through the designation of an education internationalization special zone.
On the 15th, candidate Yoon held a meeting with the Gwangsan District Private Daycare Center Association to have a communication session regarding early childhood education.
The meeting was attended by Kang Chun-ja, president of the Gwangsan District Private Daycare Center Association, and about 20 others including directors of private daycare centers such as Kim Ji-young, Kim Deok-soon, Park Chun-im, and Lim Sook-hyun.
President Kang Chun-ja expressed expectations for resolving private daycare center issues, stating, “I understand that Candidate Yoon has a special affection for early childhood education, having attracted the Early Childhood Education Promotion Center during his tenure as chairman of the Education Committee.”
She added, “It is difficult to properly educate children on an uneven playing field,” and demanded, “The discriminatory budget issues between national/public daycare centers and private ones must be resolved.”
Issues concerning children of foreign nationality were also raised.
Lim Hyun-ok, director of Eun-gwang Daycare Center, said, “There are many foreigners working in small and medium-sized enterprises in Gwangsan District,” and added, “We need to consider support methods for children of foreign nationality as well.”
Additionally, discussions were held on budget support for daycare center CCTV, class-based subsidies, and improvement of teacher treatment.
Candidate Yoon stated, “Early childhood education is greatly influenced by the philosophy of the leader,” and emphasized, “The entire daycare center system, which is the starting point of early childhood education, should be institutionalized as a public mandatory educational institution.”

He promised, “We will resolve early childhood education issues through quarterly regular meetings with private daycare centers in the district,” and pledged, “I will present education problem-solving as the top priority of district administration and create a prestigious educational city, Gwangsan, through the designation of an education internationalization special zone.”
