[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 15th that traffic will be sequentially controlled on certain sections of the city center due to the '2022 Seoul Marathon' event scheduled for the 17th.
On the day of the event, the police will restrict vehicle movement from Gwanghwamun Square to Jamsil Main Stadium in Seoul. The Sejong-daero section, where the event venue is located, will be closed from 6:30 AM to 7:40 AM, downtown roads including Euljiro, Cheonggyecheon-ro, and Jongno will be closed from 7:26 AM to 9:03 AM, and the sections around Sinseoldong Station, Gunja Bridge, Jamsil Bridge, and Jamsil Main Stadium will be closed from 8:26 AM to 10:30 AM.
To minimize traffic congestion and inconvenience to citizens, the police will install a total of about 1,350 guide signs and placards around the controlled areas, and will also provide information through traffic broadcasts and electronic message boards. Approximately 977 police personnel will be deployed for traffic management. A representative of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said, "We ask citizens traveling around the marathon course to use public transportation such as the subway and for vehicles traveling through the controlled sections to take long-distance detours and to follow the traffic police's hand signals carefully."
