Critical patients at 999 for two consecutive days in the 100s... 264 deaths reported yesterday
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] As the number of new COVID-19 cases decreased by more than 20,000 compared to the previous day, the total number of confirmed cases in South Korea surpassed 16 million. The number of critically ill patients remained in the 100s for the second consecutive day.
On the 15th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight, 125,846 new COVID-19 cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 16,104,869. The number of new cases decreased by 22,597 from the previous day (148,443). The total number of confirmed cases exceeded 15 million on the 9th and surpassed 16 million six days later.
The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized was 999, marking the second consecutive day in the 100s following 962 the day before.
The number of deaths reported yesterday was 264, dropping back to the 200s after exceeding 300 the previous day. This is 54 fewer than the previous day (318). The cumulative death toll stands at 20,616, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.
The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 49.9%. This is the first time since the 1st of last month (48.3%) that the occupancy rate has fallen below 50%. The occupancy rate in the metropolitan area is 48.1%, while outside the metropolitan area it is 54.2%.

On the 14th, 131,604 new patients began home treatment. The current number of patients under home treatment nationwide is 907,342, a decrease of 45,976 from the previous day (953,318). Among those under home treatment, 78,799 are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions.
