Biden Approval Rating Hits Record Low... Half Say "Failure in Ukraine War Response"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] With the U.S. midterm elections just over 200 days away, President Joe Biden has recorded the lowest approval ratings since taking office. His ratings continue to decline due to external factors such as the Ukraine war and internal economic issues like inflation.
According to CNN on the 14th (local time), a Quinnipiac University poll conducted from the 7th to the 11th among 1,412 adults showed President Biden's approval rating at 33%. According to political analysis site FiveThirtyEight, the 33% rating matches the Quinnipiac poll conducted from January 7 to 10, marking the lowest approval rating since Biden took office.
When asked whether "President Biden is performing well in his role," 44% of respondents gave a negative answer. Only 18% said "strongly agree," and 14% said "agree."
A significant number of Americans do not trust President Biden's leadership regarding the Ukraine situation. When asked if "President Biden is responding appropriately to the Ukraine crisis," 48% answered no, while 39% responded yes.
More than half of Americans (52%) believe that the United Nations (UN) should take a more active stance on the Ukraine crisis but also stated that the risk of war between the U.S. and Russia should not be increased. Only 19% said the UN should respond more actively even if it means risking war between the U.S. and Russia.
President Biden's approval rating also hit a record low in a survey by the U.S. economic media CNBC. In a poll conducted from the 7th to 10th among 800 people, 38% said they support President Biden.
Notably, support for Biden's economic policies dropped for the fourth consecutive time in this survey, reaching about 35%. Forty-seven percent of respondents said the economic situation is poor, and 56% predicted a recession next year.
