HMM Recognized in Top 5% for Environment, Human Rights, and Supply Chain Management
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] HMM announced on the 14th that it has become the first domestic shipping company to receive a 'Gold' rating for sustainability performance from the French environmental impact assessment organization EcoVadis.
EcoVadis is a global assessment organization that evaluates companies' environmental and social impacts. The company stated that HMM received high scores in four major categories: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and supplier management. The Gold rating corresponds to the top 5% among all global companies participating in the evaluation.
According to the company, more than 75,000 companies across over 200 industries in more than 160 countries worldwide have been evaluated. The top 1% receive Platinum, while Silver (top 25%) and Bronze (top 50%) are other rating levels. Since major global shippers frequently require external evaluations of sustainability management or impose certain restrictions as mandatory conditions during bidding, the company expects this evaluation to also contribute to enhancing its business capabilities.
