Gwangju City Proposes 7 Major Pledges and 15 Policy Tasks to Transition Committee
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju City has finally proposed regional agenda items, including the establishment of Gwangju as a representative city for artificial intelligence (AI), in relation to the selection of national tasks by the Presidential Transition Committee.
According to Gwangju City on the 14th, the Transition Committee is expected to select 20 "Promises to the People," 106 national tasks centered on six major national goals.
Regarding regional pledges, it is expected that each city and province will select seven items, classify three of them as core tasks and the rest as short- and long-term tasks, then summarize 15 related detailed tasks and five additional pending issues, Gwangju City anticipated.
In line with this trend, Gwangju City designated seven major pledges, 15 policy tasks, and five additional pending issues and delivered them to the Transition Committee.
The seven major pledges are ▲ Gwangju as the Republic of Korea’s representative city for artificial intelligence (AI) ▲ Establishment of a future mobility leading city ▲ Construction of the Gwangju-Yeongam ultra-highway and Dalbit high-speed railway ▲ Relocation of the urban military airport ▲ Establishment of the Southwest Nuclear Medical Center ▲ Establishment of the May 18 International Free Democracy Human Rights Institute (Creation of Gwangju International Free Democracy Human Rights City) ▲ Attraction of a complex shopping mall.
The 15 policy tasks refer to detailed tasks supporting the realization of pledges, such as the creation of an AI semiconductor specialized complex, establishment of an AI gifted high school, creation of a future car materials, parts, and equipment specialized complex, establishment of a testbed for autonomous vehicles and high-performance supercars, and completion of the Dalbit high-speed railway within the term.
In addition, Gwangju City requested five additional pending issues, including expansion of highways connecting Seoul-Gwangju and Gwangju-Busan to under three hours, construction of a complex station at Gwangju Songjeong Station, creation of the Asia Art Complex, hosting the 2038 Gwangju-Daegu Summer Asian Games, and creation of an advanced medical complex.
However, in line with the emphasis on artificial intelligence, many AI-related tasks have been proposed by various cities and provinces, and Jeonnam Province also hopes to attract semiconductor factories together with Gwangju, showing a tendency for considerable overlap, so the reflection results are drawing attention.
Moon Young-hoon, Acting Mayor of Gwangju, said, "We will do our best until the end by utilizing all available channels with a sense of mission that the reflection of regional pending issues in the new government’s national tasks will determine the future food source of Gwangju."
Ahead of the local elections, Gwangju, which has entered an acting authority system, is focusing on explaining regional pending issues to Transition Committee officials centered on Moon Young-hoon, Administrative Vice Mayor, and Jo In-cheol, Vice Mayor for Culture and Economy.
