Chosun University Declares a Strong Start for the 2022 Student Council
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jin-Hyung Park] The Chosun University Student Council held its inauguration ceremony for the first time in three years, declaring a strong start.
Amid nationwide difficulties in operating student councils due to the impact of COVID-19, the Chosun University Student Council has been continuously operating, drawing attention from the local community.
The '2022 Academic Year Chosun University Student Council Joint Inauguration Ceremony,' held at 1 p.m. on the 12th at Chosun University 1·8 Theater, was attended by President Min Young-don, Professor Council Chairman Kim Si-wook, Staff Labor Union Chairman Yang Go-seung, executives of each college student council, students, and university student council presidents affiliated with the Gwangju·Jeonnam Student Council Association.
The inauguration ceremony began with the host's remarks, followed by ▲entrance of guests ▲opening remarks and national anthem ▲introduction of guests ▲congratulatory speeches ▲cheerleader congratulatory performance ▲presentation of appreciation plaques to last year's student council president and vice president ▲and a cutting ceremony symbolizing the inauguration, concluding the first part.
The second part of the event included ▲congratulatory performances by the Taekwondo Department and the Global Humanities College dance team ▲introductions of ambassadors, ROTC, each college, and the General Student Club Association ▲introduction of the 35th ASSIST Student Council ▲and ended with the inauguration declaration by Student Council President Song Ho-chan.
The 35th ASSIST Student Council of Chosun University was elected in the student council election last December, with Song Ho-chan (Department of Mechanical Engineering, 4th year) and Yoo Min-woo (Department of Electronic Engineering, 4th year) receiving 77.63% of the total votes cast by all voters, being elected as student council president and vice president, respectively.
Since then, despite the impact of COVID-19, the student council has been continuously maintained, effectively serving as a link between the university, students, and the local community.
In particular, they signed an agreement with the Jangmi Street Merchants Association of Chosun University to provide discount benefits at cafes and restaurants used by students, striving to alleviate difficulties faced by students and the local commercial district.

President Song said, "Taking on the heavy responsibility as the representative of students in difficult circumstances, I believe that the basic role of the student council president is to serve as a mediator conveying students' voices to the school and to build and lead the student council properly based on this." He added, "I will make many efforts to hold various events where I can meet students and to enhance academic achievement."
