Jeong Junho, Gwangju Mayor Preliminary Candidate, Demands "Fair Primary Election Opportunity Guarantee"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Jeong Jun-ho, a preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju, met with Park Ji-hyun, the emergency committee chairperson of the Democratic Party, at the Democratic Party headquarters on the 12th and delivered a petition requesting fair and reasonable opportunities for primary elections in the nomination process for metropolitan government heads.
During the meeting with Park Ji-hyun, three young candidates for metropolitan government heads from the Democratic Party (Jeong Jun-ho, preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju; Seo Jae-heon, preliminary candidate for mayor of Daegu; Bae Seon-ho, preliminary candidate for mayor of Sejong Special Self-Governing City) jointly delivered a petition and expressed their stance to encourage young politicians to challenge and actively participate in politics.
Candidate Jeong told Chairperson Park Ji-hyun, “Since the formation of the emergency committee, the Democratic Party has announced that it will expand nominations to allow young politicians to challenge and actively participate in politics without being bound by additional points or quota systems ahead of the crucial local elections,” adding, “As the party has promised strong reform, it must never ignore voices demanding innovative nominations that meet the public’s expectations.”
Furthermore, Candidate Jeong requested Chairperson Park Ji-hyun to “show the public a changed Democratic Party through innovative nominations for metropolitan government heads,” proposing ▲ a mandatory nomination rule of 30% for young candidates for metropolitan government heads ▲ guaranteeing fair and reasonable primary election opportunities for young candidates ▲ and providing decisive support for young candidates.
