Gochang-gun and UNESCO MAB Develop 'Korea UNESCO Heritage Tour'

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun and the UNESCO MAB Korea Office have joined forces to develop a local ecological travel program, drawing significant attention.

According to the county on the 12th, recently, officials from the UNESCO MAB (Man and the Biosphere Programme: MAB) Korea Office conducted a field survey to develop the "Korea UNESCO Heritage Tour."

The survey team experienced walking along the Gochang Tidal Flat, a World Natural Heritage site, explored the Dolmen Park, visited the national geopark attraction Byeongbawi Rock, trekked the Ungok Ramsar Wetland, and enjoyed an ecological meal at Hoam Village.

The UNESCO MAB Korea Office plans to launch the "Korea UNESCO Heritage Tour" featuring Gochang as the stage, the first of its kind nationwide, targeting domestic and international tourists.

The program will be operated through collaboration among the MAB Office, National Geopark Office, UNESCO Korea Committee, Gochang-gun, and the Ungok Wetland Ecotourism Council.

Starting with a familiarization tour next month, from September onward, domestic and international tourists will actively visit Gochang, a World Heritage city.

Linking World Heritage sites within the Gochang UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and nearby villages with ecotourism is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.

Hyun Byung-kwan, Director of the MAB Korea Office, said, "Gochang was the first place that came to mind as a region where various UNESCO programs can be experienced," adding, "I hope this will be a great opportunity to promote Gochang worldwide."

Lee Seong-su, Director of the County Ecological Environment Division, stated, "We are pleased that Gochang's valuable assets, aiming to be a sustainable and green city, can now shine."
