Candidate Kang Jinwon: "Switch Water Supply of Jangheung Dam in Gangjin-eup"
Promise to Convert All of Gangjin to Metropolitan Water Supply System
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Kang Jin-won, a preliminary candidate for Gangjin County Governor, announced a pledge to switch to using water from Jangheung Dam so that all residents of Gangjin County can use metropolitan tap water.
Candidate Kang explained, "The water that Gangjin residents drink is supplied from two places: Jangheung Dam and the Tamjin River intake station," adding, "Some parts of the eastern side of Gangjin-eup are supplied with water drawn from the Tamjin River after undergoing purification, while some southwestern areas are supplied with water from Jangheung Dam."
Although there is little difference in water quality between the two sources, the perception among residents is that the water from Jangheung Dam is better. Therefore, the plan is to switch the entire Gangjin-eup to be supplied with water from Jangheung Dam and persuade higher authorities to use Tamjin River water only in emergencies.
In particular, when metropolitan tap water construction is carried out, households incur installation costs of about 500,000 to 800,000 KRW, but considering the county's financial situation, a plan to support about 30% of the cost is also being reviewed.
