Lee stated in a text message sent to the media on the same day, "I hereby resign from my position as a member of the Presidential Transition Committee, effective today."
Along with this, Lee emphasized, "There have been various rumors about my appointment to several ministries, but I want to make it clear that I have no intention of joining any ministry."
Lee had been mentioned as a potential candidate for ministerial positions such as the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Lee is known as a close aide to Ahn Cheol-soo, the chairman of the Transition Committee. During the presidential election, he was responsible for the negotiation channel for the opposition candidate unification talks between President-elect Yoon Seok-youl and Chairman Ahn.
