Yoon's team explained that they are also considering a visit to former President Park Geun-hye, who has been staying at her residence in Daegu after being discharged from the hospital at the end of last month.
On the 8th, spokesperson Bae Hyun-jin said at a briefing room of the Presidential Transition Committee in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, "President-elect Yoon will start his regional tour next week," adding, "He plans to visit the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions on a one-night, two-day schedule."
Spokesperson Bae stated, "(President-elect Yoon) heard directly about the key projects being promoted in each region and the difficulties faced by the regions through the recent meeting with the governors of 17 cities and provinces nationwide," adding, "He will find ways to revive livelihoods on the ground in the regions and, above all, to achieve the regional balance that the president-elect emphasizes most in the new government. He will listen and propose these as strong agendas for national tasks and put them into practice."
Since President-elect Yoon chose Daegu and Gyeongbuk as his first regional tour destinations, there is speculation that a meeting with former President Park may be arranged.
When asked whether the schedule for visiting former President Park is being coordinated, spokesperson Bae said, "That is naturally under consideration, but nothing has been decided yet," adding, "The purpose of the regional visit schedule is to fulfill the president-elect's first promise to 'go back and express gratitude' and to convey the intention of balanced regional development so that no matter where people live, they will not face discrimination in opportunities."
