View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Following Pusan National University, Korea University has also decided to cancel the admission of Cho Min, the daughter of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk. With admissions canceled by two universities in succession, Cho's academic qualification has been downgraded to a high school graduate.
On the 7th, Korea University announced, "The Admission Cancellation Review Committee resolved on February 22, 2022, to cancel the admission approval of the subject (Cho Min) in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Higher Education Act and the 2010 academic year admission guidelines."
Korea University stated, "We received the 'School Life Record' submitted by the subject for the 2010 academic year admission screening," and "Upon review, we confirmed that the contents recorded were judged by the court ruling to be false or untrue."
Korea University disclosed this fact 42 days after the admission cancellation decision was made. The university explained, "The approval for the admission cancellation was completed on February 25, and the notification letter was sent to Cho on February 28, three days later. We confirmed that Cho received it on March 2."
Korea University formed the Admission Cancellation Review Committee in August last year and reached the conclusion to cancel admission in February, six months later. The university publicly announced the admission cancellation review results two days after Pusan National University issued an administrative disposition to cancel admission to its medical school.
On the 6th, Korea University received an official letter from the Ministry of Education requesting a response regarding the review committee's procedure and decided to disclose the disposition results.
Korea University explained, "The review committee proceeded under the principle of confidentiality regarding the discussion of admission cancellation, so the process and results were unknown," and "During the process of responding to the official letter, the disposition results inevitably became public, so we distributed a press release all at once."
In April last year, Korea University announced its position to the Ministry of Education regarding measures related to Cho's admission fraud, stating, "We will take action after the final judgment," and concluded with admission cancellation after one year.
According to Korea University regulations, if a "significant defect is found in the screening materials submitted for admission evaluation," the Admission Cancellation Review Committee must handle the case following the prescribed procedures.
On the 5th, Pusan National University held a faculty meeting and finalized the review to cancel Cho's admission to the medical school. On the same day as Pusan National University's decision, Cho filed a request for suspension of execution and injunction.
Attention is also focused on whether the Ministry of Health and Welfare will revoke Cho's medical license. Even if a medical license has been issued, if the degree is canceled, the qualification for the medical license cannot be maintained.
Cho entered the Department of Environmental Ecology Engineering at Korea University in 2010 and was admitted to Pusan National University's medical school through early admission in 2015, but her admission was canceled after seven years. Cho passed the national medical licensing exam in January last year and worked as an intern at Hanil Hospital.
