President Moon Plants Commemorative Tree at Cheong's Green Yard on Arbor Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the afternoon of the 5th, President Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jung-sook participated in a commemorative tree planting ceremony with Blue House aides at the Blue House Green Garden in celebration of the 77th Arbor Day.
The commemorative tree planted was a 19-year-old Chinese tallow tree, matching the number of the 19th president.
President Moon explained, "The Chinese tallow tree has hard fruits used as medicinal ingredients and to make prayer beads, so it is also called the 'Prayer Bead Tree.' Its flowers bloom late, in June to July, with golden-colored blossoms, and its fruits open in autumn in the shape of a pouch, symbolizing abundance and wealth."

Meanwhile, starting from the 6th, the Blue House will open the southern side of Bukaksan Mountain behind the Blue House. This comes one year and six months after the first phase opening of the northern side of Bukaksan Mountain on November 1, 2020. It fulfills the promise made to the public by President Moon Jae-in during his 2017 presidential campaign to fully open Bukaksan and Inwangsan Mountains and return them to the citizens.
