UK Prime Minister: "Odessa Invasion Must Be Stopped... Hope to Provide Naval Missiles to Ukraine"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on the 2nd (local time) that he would provide anti-ship missiles to help Ukraine defend the southern port city of Odesa.
According to The Times, Prime Minister Johnson told his cabinet that just as the UK helped prevent the Russian army's occupation of Kyiv by supplying anti-tank missiles, weapons must be provided to stop an invasion of Odesa.
A senior government source said, "It appears that the Russian army will deploy warships, not tanks, in the attack on Odesa," adding, "Ukraine wants weapons to attack warships."
Johnson also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that afternoon and congratulated him on the recapture of Kyiv.
The Prime Minister's Office stated in a press release that Johnson encouraged the Ukrainian military while acknowledging the suffering of civilians.
