Ukraine Recaptures Northern Front... Russian Forces Withdraw to Northeastern Border
Recapture of 30 Villages Near Kyiv, the Capital of Ukraine
Russian Forces Intensify Offensive in Eastern Donbas Region
[Asia Economy International Department Reporter] A senior Ukrainian official stated that Russian forces advancing toward Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, have been pushed back toward the border.
Oleksiy Arestovych, an advisor to the President of Ukraine, said in an interview with state television on the 2nd (local time), "Russian forces have withdrawn to the northeastern border." He explained that the Ukrainian military recaptured more than 30 villages near Kyiv the previous day.
Advisor Arestovych added, "We have acquired a significant amount of abandoned equipment due to a lack of fuel on the northern front and are handing it over to our troops," adding, "This means the offensive is progressing well."
The Russian forces that withdrew from the northern front, including Kyiv, are strengthening their offensive in the eastern Donbas region.
Russian forces succeeded in capturing Izium, a strategic point on the eastern front, the previous day. Having broken through Izium, Russian troops are currently heading toward Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast, while the Ukrainian military is reportedly establishing new defensive positions in Sloviansk. If Sloviansk falls, Ukrainian forces on the eastern front could be encircled, so the Ukrainian military is expected to defend this area desperately.
Sloviansk is also where the Donbas war began in 2014. The official start date of the Donbas war is April 12, 2014, when separatist rebels in Donetsk occupied the Sloviansk city hall.
