View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is conducting a joint safety inspection of steep slopes in the region and a comprehensive survey to identify areas requiring management in preparation for the thawing season.
From February 10 to April 22, a 58-day period, safety inspections are being carried out on 158 steep slopes that are particularly vulnerable during the thawing season.
The county is conducting a full inspection of natural and artificial (retaining walls and terraces) steep slopes.
A comprehensive survey to identify steep slopes requiring management and to check their current status will also be conducted simultaneously.
The main inspection items include cracks or ground subsidence, scouring, bulging phenomena, and rockfall occurrences that may occur as ice melts. Additionally, the condition of surrounding drainage facilities, rockfall prevention nets, and repair and reinforcement facilities such as rockfall prevention measures are also being checked for abnormalities.
The inspection is carried out using a thawing season safety checklist, and if the risk factors are judged to be significant, a disaster risk assessment and detailed safety diagnosis will be conducted using private experts.
If any issues identified during the inspection can be corrected on-site, immediate action will be taken, and for matters requiring maintenance, repair projects will be promoted before the full rainy season arrives.

A county official emphasized, “During the steep slope safety management period in the thawing season, our county has established and operates a 24-hour situation reporting system,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure safety management by conducting daily surveillance activities targeting management areas whenever weather warnings are issued.”
