Daejeon Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park Breaks Ground... Target Completion in 2025
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City has broken ground on the Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park project. It has been 16 years since the project was initiated.
The city announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park was held on the 1st.
Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park will be developed on a 431,715㎡ area within the Gapcheon waterfront district development site (947,430㎡) spanning Doan-dong, Seo-gu, and Wonsinheung-dong, Yuseong-gu. The total project cost for the park development is 93.5 billion KRW, with completion targeted for March 2025.
After completion, the northern part of Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park will feature a themed playground, cultivated wetland, and event plaza, serving as a space for citizens. The southern part will offer spaces adjacent to the lake for experiences such as a suspension bridge, themed island, rain bath, and waterside plaza.
Within the site, the National Assembly Integrated Digital Center will be constructed, consisting of a data center for National Assembly information resources, a digital library without books, a digital experience and exhibition hall, and a civic parliamentary training facility, with a total floor area of 110,934㎡.
The National Assembly Integrated Digital Center is scheduled for completion in May 2024, and detailed design for the initial construction phase is currently underway. According to the city and the National Assembly Secretariat, construction is expected to begin as early as the second half of this year.

Heo Tae-jeong, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, “We will develop Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park into a premium park equipped with ecological wetlands and convenience facilities so that it can become a new landmark of Daejeon.”
