Gochang-gun 'Guam Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project' Promotion

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 31st that it will promote the ‘Guam Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project’ as a new project for three years.

The flood risk area around Samcheongul 1,000 in Guam-ri, Asan-myeon, Gochang-gun, experiences frequent flooding damage to houses and farmland in Guam Village due to overflow of water coming down from the Samcheongul valley during typhoons and heavy rains.

To improve this, the county will invest 8 billion KRW by 2024 to carry out maintenance work on 2.3 km of small streams.

Previously, the Guam district was designated as a natural disaster risk improvement district in 2010, and last year applied for a new project to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and was selected as a nationally funded project.

The county is investing 21.5 billion KRW in the maintenance of natural disaster risk improvement districts such as Gochang, Pyeongji, Jangdong, Manhwa, and Yongjeong districts and is carrying out the project.

Kim Jeongsu, head of the county’s Disaster Safety Division, said, “We will continue to find and improve areas expected to be damaged by natural disasters to create an environment where residents can live safely.”
