"History is the Future!" ... Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Urges Proper History Education for Japan's Future Generations
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] The Gyeongbuk Provincial Council condemned the distortion of history and issued a warning to Japan.
The council expressed anger and condemnation over the Japanese government's repeated distortions in the approval of Japanese high school textbooks, describing Dokdo as "Japan's inherent territory," claiming "illegal occupation by Korea," and asserting that "Korea unilaterally claims its territory."
The council stated that amid the unstable international situation due to the recent Russia-Ukraine war, and at a time when the international community increasingly emphasizes the need to improve the future-oriented partnership between Korea and Japan, it sternly warns Japan for distorting historical facts from a Japan-centric biased perspective and including them in textbooks.
Chairman Ko Woo-hyun said, "We strongly condemn the Japanese government's approval of Japanese high school textbooks to be used from next year that distort historical facts with erroneous logic and historical views," and urged, "Since a correct historical understanding between the two countries can promote friendship and mutual development for future generations, true history education should be conducted even now."
