Yeom Tae-young "Lee Jae-myung's Gyeonggi Local Currency, Pledged to Double Expansion"
Announcement of 'So-Jung-Han Pledge' No. 2 to Expand Gyeonggi Local Currency
Local Currency Incentive Rate Increased from 10% to 20%
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Yeom Tae-young, the Democratic Party of Korea's preliminary candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor, announced the 'So-Jung-Han (Small but Important) Pledge No. 2,' which doubles the Gyeonggi local currency policy initiated by former Governor Lee Jae-myung.
On the 29th, Yeom announced through a YouTube live broadcast a pledge to double the incentive limit of the Gyeonggi local currency up to 200,000 KRW depending on the region.
Yeom said, "The important pledge I am announcing today is 'Double the Gyeonggi Local Currency,'" adding, "We will double the incentives when charging the Gyeonggi local currency and raise the current 10% incentive rate to 20%." He emphasized, "The Gyeonggi local currency created by Lee Jae-myung will be doubled by Yeom Tae-young."
The Gyeonggi local currency is issued in 31 cities and counties of Gyeonggi Province and can be used at small business stores with annual sales of 1 billion KRW or less within the region. It is issued to expand sales of traditional markets and small businesses and to revitalize the local economy, providing incentive benefits at a certain rate depending on the amount charged.
In particular, after the COVID-19 pandemic, former Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung utilized the local currency as a catalyst for economic recovery by distributing disaster relief funds in the form of local currency.
Yeom explained, "COVID-19 has continued for three years, and many people have already been hit so hard that recovery is difficult," adding, "The most urgent and important task for the next Gyeonggi Province governor should be to help these people stand up again."
