[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Sung) will build a public library at Exit 2 of Sindorim Station.
With the construction of this public library, Guro will have a total of 119 libraries this year, including 11 district-run libraries.
Guro-gu stated on the 29th, "We are building libraries throughout the region to spread a culture of reading and meet the diverse cultural needs of residents," adding, "We are establishing a library near Sindorim Station, where there is a large floating population, so that many residents can access books more easily."
The public library, to be built on three above-ground floors with a total floor area of 1,444㎡ within the Guro-dong 1-4 retention basin, will have an open reading room and book caf? on the first floor; a general reading room and digital resource room on the second floor; and a children's resource room and program room on the third floor.
A total budget of 10.144 billion KRW, including national, city, and district funds, will be invested in this project, which started this month and aims for completion in June next year.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on the 28th at the Sindorim Technomart public parking lot. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Lee Sung, members of the National Assembly, city and district council members, and local residents, featuring congratulatory speeches, project progress reports, a groundbreaking ritual, and commemorative photos.
A Guro-gu official said, "The library at Sindorim Station will not only satisfy the reading desires of citizens passing through the station but also serve as a place for rest and communication through books," adding, "We will do our best to expand various types of libraries reflecting residents' demands and create diverse reading programs."
Meanwhile, near Sindorim Station, where the public library is being built, various cultural and convenience facilities are also available. Along the international cultural and arts street 'Guroadway,' there is 'Darag,' a free community cultural space for residents; the outdoor stage 'Sindorim Opera House'; and the international organization 'UNESCO Asia-Pacific Education Institute.' Additionally, in the underground plaza of Sindorim Station, visitors can find the 'Smart Library' and 'Smart Guro Promotion Center,' and on the platform station, the cultural arts space 'Cultural Railroad 959' is also available.
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced that the district-run Hong Eun Dodam Library (129 Hong Eun Jungang-ro) will reopen on the 31st after six months of remodeling.
Opened in 2011, this library is a representative reading and cultural space in the northern area of Seodaemun-gu, used by more than 80,000 people annually.
Last year, the district was selected in Seoul City's 'Village Architect Space Improvement Project' contest and renovated the library.
The renovation features the removal of partitions and ceilings to increase openness and space utilization. The first floor consists of a children's reading room and an infant reading room, while the second floor has a general resource room, a book rest area, and a newly created outdoor terrace.
Additionally, a connecting passageway was newly built between the library and Hongbak Park (11-1085 Hong Eun-dong), and a family restroom was added.
Seodaemun-gu plans to expand 'youth-specialized services' such as operating reading clubs, lectures, securing customized books, and running programs to coincide with the reopening.
The reopening ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on the 31st, with events including free issuance of new membership cards, increased number of loanable books, lifting of loan suspensions, and pop-up book making.
Mayor Moon Seok-jin of Seodaemun-gu said, "We expect that the Hong Eun Dodam Library, reborn with resident-friendly design, will further activate the culture of reading and library use within the local community."
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) will conduct the 'View-box Rental Project' for proper handwashing experience education from April 1 to the end of December.
The 'View-box Rental Project' lends view-boxes and fluorescent lotion for handwashing experience education to child-related institutions such as daycare centers and kindergartens to prevent food poisoning among children. Geumcheon-gu plans to help children develop proper handwashing habits through this project.
The view-box is a device for experiencing proper handwashing. By applying fluorescent lotion and comparing before and after washing hands, one can visually check the cleanliness of the hands.
Institutions wishing to rent can apply through the 'Handwashing Education Equipment Application' menu on the Geumcheon-gu Public Health Center website. The rental period is 14 days, including holidays.
Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon of Geumcheon-gu said, "Proper handwashing alone can prevent infectious diseases such as food poisoning and hand, foot, and mouth disease," adding, "We hope this education will be an opportunity for children to develop healthy habits."
Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is recruiting and operating learners for April programs at the Gangbuk-gu Lifelong Learning Center and Everyone's School Gangbuk Learning Center to promote lifelong learning participation among residents.
The education will be held on the 4th floor of the Lifelong Learning Center located at 145 Ohyeon-ro, Gangbuk-gu (Beon-dong). This time, four programs will start: ▲ Invention class for prospective entrepreneurs ▲ Environment and jobs through leafy vegetables ▲ Ecological play and reading ▲ Democratic citizenship education leader training project.
The district has prepared programs that various groups, including women, children, people with disabilities, and non-disabled people, can participate in together, striving to expand lifelong learning opportunities.
Residents wishing to enroll can apply through the Gangbuk-gu Neulbaeumteo website. The program tuition is free, but separate material costs may occur.
Depending on the COVID-19 spread situation, the operation schedule may change or be canceled, and classes with few students may be closed.
