[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] KCC has been working alongside the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development for five years in the government-wide project "Saetteul Village Project," continuing efforts to stabilize the living conditions of low-income residents.
Recently, KCC signed a business agreement for the "2022 Public-Private Partnership Aged Housing Improvement Project," which involves seven organizations including the Balanced National Development Committee, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Korea Habitat. KCC and the participating organizations agreed to support the project’s success by donating funds and building materials, participating in housing renovation volunteer activities, and cooperating to assist vulnerable housing groups. After further consultations, three regions will be selected to realize spatial welfare for approximately 300 households.
This year, KCC will provide eco-friendly building materials worth about 200 million KRW for the project. By supplying key building materials such as paint and windows, the improvement of aged houses is expected to reduce risks such as fire, increase the energy efficiency of buildings, and contribute to saving heating and cooling costs, significantly improving the living conditions of vulnerable housing groups.
The Saetteul Village Project is a government-wide initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable areas neglected during rapid economic growth and enhancing residents’ quality of life by expanding living infrastructure such as safety and sanitation. In residentially vulnerable areas commonly called "daldongnae" or "jjokbangchon," the government, local governments, and private companies collaborate to improve living infrastructure and support resident welfare, while creating jobs through the participation of small-scale home repair organizations within the community. Since 2018, KCC has participated in the Saetteul Village Project, providing various eco-friendly building materials necessary for the repair of over 600 households.
