Porsche Korea Hosts 'Porsche Ikonen, Seoul' Brand Museum
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Porsche Korea announced on the 25th that it will hold Porsche's brand museum exhibition, "Porsche Ikonen, Seoul - Sports Car Legend," at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul from the 9th to the 22nd of next month. This exhibition will be held for the first time in Asia, domestically, for Porsche fans and customers in the continuously growing Korean market.
The event showcases Porsche models known as "Porsche Icons" representing each era throughout the brand's history of over 70 years, which began with Ferry Porsche's "dream." Through this, visitors can experience the brand's "innovation" and "heritage" that have been passed down through generations in a museum concept exhibition.
The exhibition features a diverse range of vehicles, from legendary production cars to successful racing cars and innovative concept vehicles. Most of the exhibited cars come from the collection of the Porsche Heritage Museum department located in Stuttgart, Germany.
Holger Geyermann, CEO of Porsche Korea, said, "We are pleased to present legendary sports cars to Porsche fans in Korea for the first time in Asia and to showcase Porsche's core values through era-defining 'icons' encompassing heritage, motorsports, and innovation." He added, "We hope this will be a time for fans to enjoy heritage models reflecting Porsche's beginnings, past, present, and future all in one place and to feel closer to the brand."
"Porsche Ikonen, Seoul" exhibits a total of 18 legendary sports cars across three themed zones: Heritage, Motorsports, and Innovation. The Heritage Zone displays seven legendary sports cars, including the "550 Spyder," "Formula 2 Silver," and "356A Speedster." The Motorsports Zone features six racing cars that have won competitions. The Innovation Zone will showcase five vehicles defining the future of sports cars with new inspiration, including Porsche's first pure electric sports car, the "Taycan," and the high-performance hypercar "919 Street."
Porsche Korea is preparing a special event for domestic Porsche and motorsports fans. The concept car "919 Street," first introduced through the "Porsche Unseen Design Book" in 2020, will be unveiled to the media and public for the first time with a special performance. The "919 Street" is a high-performance vehicle developed for public road use based on the technology of the 919 Hybrid racing car, which won the Le Mans 24 Hours three times consecutively. Korean designer Jung Woo-sung of Style Porsche, who participated in the exterior design of the "919 Street Project" vehicle, will introduce the vehicle development process and design through a design walkthrough video.
The exhibition will also operate various interactive programs for visitors, including a mobile docent program, media art, and a racing simulator. Additionally, before the exhibition opens, a virtual space will be introduced on the metaverse platform "Gather Town," where visitors can preview the actual exhibition vehicles.
