Samsung Launches Galaxy A23 in 300,000 KRW Range to Rival Apple iPhone Release Date
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Samsung Electronics is countering Apple’s budget smartphone iPhone SE 3rd generation official launch by releasing the Galaxy A53 and A23.
On the 25th, Samsung Electronics unexpectedly launched the LTE smartphone ‘Galaxy A23’ priced at around 370,000 KRW (photo). On the same day, the budget smartphone Galaxy A53 5G, priced at around 590,000 KRW, was also pre-released. The Galaxy A23 features a 167.2mm (6.6-inch) FHD+ display supporting a maximum 90Hz refresh rate. It is equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) on the rear. It also includes a quad camera setup with a 5-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 2-megapixel depth camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera, allowing for various photos from portraits to landscapes. The front camera is 8 megapixels.
It comes with 128GB of internal memory and a large 5000mAh battery for long usage. It also supports 25W super-fast charging. The Galaxy A23 will be released through the three major telecom carriers as well as an unlocked model, priced at 374,000 KRW. The available colors are black, white, and blue. Samsung Electronics also started pre-activation of the Galaxy A53 5G on the same day. Although the official launch is on the 1st of next month, pre-order customers can activate their devices early.
The ‘Galaxy A53 5G’ features a rear quad camera including a 64-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 32-megapixel front camera, while the A33 5G includes a 48-megapixel rear camera and a 13-megapixel front camera. With added artificial intelligence (AI) technology, it can capture clear photos even at night.

Meanwhile, Apple officially launched the iPhone SE3 in Korea on the same day. Although it is evaluated to have little change with a similar design and still a small screen compared to the previous model, it is characterized by faster device speed using Apple’s latest processor. According to LG Uplus, an analysis of iPhone SE3 pre-orders over the past week showed that the most popular color was by far ‘Midnight (55%)’, followed by ‘Starlight’ and ‘(PRODUCT)RED’. The 64GB model accounted for an overwhelming 45% of orders.
