President Moon Chairs NSC Emergency Meeting... Condemns North Korea's ICBM Launch (Comprehensive)
"Breaking the ICBM Launch Moratorium"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Blue House announced that President Moon Jae-in received a report from National Security Office Director Suh Hoon on the afternoon of the 24th regarding North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch and presided over an emergency National Security Council (NSC) meeting.
President Moon strongly condemned North Korea's launch, emphasizing that it was a unilateral breach of the ICBM launch moratorium promised by Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party, to the international community. He stated that this act poses a serious threat to the Korean Peninsula, the region, and the international community, and is a clear violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Furthermore, he instructed that all response measures be thoroughly devised while closely cooperating with related countries and the international community based on a strong ROK-U.S. alliance to ensure there are no security gaps during the government transition period. He also urged close cooperation with the president-elect's team.
President Moon also sternly urged North Korea to immediately cease actions that escalate tensions and to promptly return to the path of diplomatic resolution through dialogue.
