Goheung-gun Extends Local Tax Support Due to COVID-19
Extension of Payment Deadlines, Good Landlord Discounts, and Application of General Tax Rates to Entertainment Bars to Reduce Taxpayer Burden
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will extend and expand support such as local tax deadline extensions, collection deferrals, tax investigation deferrals, and reductions in 2022 for residents struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
For declared tax items such as acquisition tax, local income tax, and resident tax for business establishments, the reporting and payment deadlines will be extended by 6 months upon the taxpayer's request if they have suffered direct or indirect damage from COVID-19, with a maximum extension of up to 1 year.
For assessed tax items such as property tax and automobile tax, flexible measures such as collection deferral, notice deferral, installment billing, and delinquency disposition deferral will be operated. Taxpayers who find it difficult to undergo tax investigations due to COVID-19 can request a deferral of the investigation, which will be replaced by a written investigation instead of an on-site visit.
Property tax reductions for "Good Landlords" who reduce rent by 10% or more have been granted proportionally up to 50% of the building portion since 2020, but this year the limit will be increased to 100%, and the reduction will be expanded to include the land portion as well.
Additionally, the property tax on entertainment bars, which was subject to heavy taxation, has applied the general tax rate since 2021 for the building portion, and from this year, it will be expanded to include the land portion.
Acquisition tax, local resource facility tax, registration license tax, and property tax are also exempted for temporary buildings of screening clinics established in medical institutions for COVID-19 disaster response.
Goheung-gun has reduced local taxes by 41 million KRW through 48 cases approved by the council from 2020 to the end of 2021, and provided local tax payment relief measures such as deadline extensions for 40 million KRW through 35 cases.
A Goheung-gun official stated, “Along with consultations on local tax support related to COVID-19, we operate various taxpayer rights protection systems such as taxpayer protection officers for local tax grievance consultations, village tax accountants (free tax consultations through tax accountants Park Young-in and Jeong Hee-do), and selected representatives who assist with local tax appeal procedures.”
