[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) held the ‘2022 1st Festival Deliberation Committee’ on the 23rd at the Mapo-gu Council Multipurpose Room.
At this meeting, appointment letters were presented to the committee members, followed by an evaluation of the festivals held last year and discussions on this year’s festival projects.
Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is receiving continuous warm support to aid the recovery from the wildfires that swept through Gangwon-do.
Responding to a request from the Gangwon-do Community Chest of Korea, Seongbuk-gu began accepting donations for the Gangwon wildfire recovery fund. It announced that it received 2 million KRW from the Seongbuk-gu Neighborhood Association Council, 3 million KRW from the Seokgwan-dong Residents’ Autonomous Committee, and 1 million KRW from Choi Baek-soon, director of the Seongbuk-gu Veterans Hall.
In addition, Seongbuk-gu office employees donated 10 million KRW, the Seongbuk-gu Democratic Peaceful Unification Advisory Council gave 3 million KRW, the Seongbuk-gu Integrated Defense Council 3 million KRW, Noblesse Tower employees and residents 13 million KRW, Seongbuk-gu Veterans Association 2 million KRW, and the Seongbuk-gu Saemaeul Geumgo Seongbuk-gu Council 5 million KRW. Over 20 organizations and corporations have expressed their intention to participate in the donation drive.
In May 2019, Seongbuk-gu residents also raised and donated 54 million KRW for relief funds for the Gangwon wildfire damage. Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “Seeing the wildfire recovery donations come in once again reminded me of the meaning of ‘sip-si-il-ban’ (many helping hands make a bowl of rice). The hands extended by our residents will become the cornerstone of a warm Korea beyond just love for our local area.”
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) conducted a joint public-private large-scale cleanup from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the 23rd to create a pleasant urban environment welcoming the new spring.
This cleanup involved Yangcheon-gu Office, 18 neighborhood community centers, and professional organizations working together to thoroughly clean areas that had been insufficiently maintained, focusing on major commercial districts and subway station surroundings with high foot traffic.
In particular, the Cleaning Administration Division, along with the Park and Greenery Division, Construction Management Division, Road Division, Flood Control Division, and Traffic Administration Division, each formulated their own plans to carry out extensive environmental maintenance around parks, green spaces, sidewalk facilities, sewer dredging, and traffic safety facilities.
Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jung Soon-kyun) held the inauguration ceremony of the ‘3rd Gangnam-gu Children and Youth Participation Committee’ on the 19th at the Gangnam Youth Center auditorium via an ontact (online contact) method to enhance the rights of children and adolescents.
The inauguration ceremony began with an encouragement speech by Mayor Jung Soon-kyun via video, followed by the presentation of appointment letters, self-introductions, and activity guidance. Gangnam-gu awarded appointment letters to 23 youth participation committee members aged 14 to 19, selected through a public recruitment in January. The committee will carry out duties such as monitoring district administration and delivering improvement suggestions until December.
Last year, the 2nd Participation Committee proposed ‘free cervical cancer vaccinations for male and female youth’ at the 9th Seoul Metropolitan Children and Youth Hope Assembly, winning the top prize, the Seoul Mayor’s Award. They also planned the Gangnam-gu Youth Institution Roadmap, producing introduction videos and 3,000 leaflets for five youth facilities in the area. The videos were distributed on YouTube and other social media, and the leaflets were distributed to 45 middle and high schools and six youth institutions.
